PRIVACY Policy
Effective Date: January 1, 2026
Chouette is a design house for families who move through the world. We take the trust you place in us — in sharing your name, your email, your habits as a reader — as seriously as we take everything else we make. This Notice explains clearly what we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.
1. Scope
Chouette World LLC (Chouette, we, us, or our), based in New York, New York, recognises the importance of privacy and is committed to protecting the personal data of those who interact with our platform. This Notice describes how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process personal data, and sets out the rights and choices available to individuals regarding that data.
This Notice applies to:

– Subscribers to our newsletter or mailing lists
– Readers and individuals who engage with our editorial content
– Customers who purchase products from our Objects collection
– Current and prospective partners, vendors, and affiliates
– Individuals who participate in surveys, promotions, or other activities we may conduct
– Anyone who contacts us or otherwise communicates with us in connection with our services
This Notice does not apply to information we collect about our employees, contractors, or job applicants, which is governed by separate internal policies.
In some instances, we may provide supplemental privacy notices for specific activities — such as a product launch, partner promotion, or event. Where a supplemental notice conflicts with this Notice, the supplemental notice will control with respect to the personal data it covers.
Your use of our services and any privacy-related dispute is subject to this Notice and our Terms of Use.
2. Personal Data We Collect
We collect personal data directly from you, from third parties, and automatically through your use of our services. What we collect depends on how you interact with us.
3. Data you give us directly
Account and profile information
Certain areas of our site — including purchasing from our Objects collection and accessing member-only content — may require you to create an account. When you do, we collect your name, email address, and any additional information you choose to provide, such as a mailing address or preferences.
Purchases and payments
When you purchase a product through our site, we collect the information necessary to process your payment, including your name, billing and shipping address, and payment details. Payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processors. We do not store full payment card details on our systems. We also maintain records of past purchases and items you have viewed or added to your cart.
Communications and enquiries
When you email us, submit a contact form, or otherwise communicate with us — including through our social media channels — we collect and maintain a record of your contact details, the content of your message, and our response.
Newsletter and mailing list subscriptions
When you sign up to receive our newsletter, city guide updates, product announcements, or other communications, we collect your name and email address. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send you.
Contests, surveys, and events
If you participate in a survey, contest, promotion, or event hosted or sponsored by Chouette, we collect the registration and participation information relevant to that activity, including your name, email address, and any other details the activity requires.
4. Data we receive from third parties
We may receive information about you from third-party sources, including social media platforms, public databases, joint marketing partners, and analytics providers. If you connect a third-party account (such as a payment service) to our site, we may receive information from that third party in accordance with their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party platforms you use.
5. Data we collect automatically
Device and browsing information
We use cookies, log files, pixel tags, and similar tracking technologies to automatically collect information when you visit or use our site. This may include your IP address, general location information, browser type, device type, device ID, operating system, referring URLs, page views, date and time stamps, and other usage data.
Activity and usage data
We collect information about how you navigate and interact with our site — including which pages and articles you read, which links you click, how long you spend on a given page, and which products or items you view or add to your cart.
Location information
We may derive approximate location information from your IP address. If you grant permission through your device settings, we may also collect more precise geolocation data. You can withdraw this permission at any time through your device settings.
Email engagement data
We may use pixels embedded in HTML emails to understand whether our emails have been opened and whether links within them have been clicked. This helps us assess the relevance and performance of our communications.
6. How We Use Your Personal Data
We use the personal data we collect for the following purposes:
– To provide and operate our services, including fulfilling orders, processing payments, and responding to your enquiries and requests
– To send our newsletter, city guides, product announcements, and other communications you have signed up to receive
– To personalise and improve your experience on our site, including by tailoring content to your interests and location
– To analyse how our site and content are used, in order to improve our editorial and product offerings
– To manage and administer contests, surveys, promotions, and events
– To protect the security and integrity of our services and to detect and prevent fraud, misuse, and unauthorised access
– To comply with our legal obligations and respond to legal process, including regulatory requirements under New York and applicable federal law
– To consider and carry out business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring, where relevant
– For general internal business operations, including accounting, compliance, and recordkeeping
7. How We Share Your Personal Data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share your personal data in the following circumstances:
Service providers and vendors
We share personal data with third-party service providers who perform functions on our behalf — including payment processors, email platforms, analytics providers, hosting services, and legal and financial advisors. These parties are contractually required to use your data only as directed by us and in accordance with this Notice.
Affiliates and subsidiaries
We may share personal data with our affiliates and subsidiaries, who are required to handle it in accordance with this Notice.
Fulfilment partners
Where you purchase a product, we may share your shipping address and relevant order details with third-party fulfilment partners in order to deliver your order.
Third-party platforms
We may share data with third-party platforms and tools we use to deliver or improve our services, including advertising networks, social media platforms, and analytics services. Please see Section 6 (Cookies, Targeting and Analytics) for further details.
Marketing partners
We may share personal data with joint marketing partners or other third parties whose products or services we believe may be of interest to you, subject to your rights to opt out described in Section 8. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
Business transfers
If Chouette is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred to or shared with the relevant parties as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any material change in how your data is handled as a result.
Legal compliance and protection of rights
We may disclose personal data where required to do so by law, court order, or regulatory process — including in response to lawful requests from law enforcement or government authorities — or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Chouette, our users, or others.
Aggregate and anonymised data
We may collect, use, and share aggregate or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for research, analytics, and business purposes. This falls outside the scope of this Notice.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When we no longer need your personal data, we will delete or anonymise it. If deletion is not immediately possible — for example, because data is stored in backup archives — we will securely isolate it until deletion is feasible.
9. Cookies, Targeting and Analytics
We and our third-party service providers use cookies, pixel tags, local storage, log files, and similar technologies to collect information about your browsing activity, device, and use of our site. We use this information to analyse how our site is used, improve performance and content, and in some cases to deliver targeted advertising.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit our site. Some cookies are essential for the site to function; others support security, performance, or analytics. We also use cookies to remember your preferences and to deliver relevant content.
Pixel tags
Pixel tags (also known as web beacons or clear GIFs) are invisible graphics embedded in web pages and emails. We use them to track page visits, email opens, and link clicks, and to compile usage statistics.
Third-party analytics
We use third-party tools — including Google Analytics — to collect and analyse usage data about our site. These tools may collect data using their own cookies and tracking technologies. Information collected is used to generate reports that help us understand and improve our site.
Targeted advertising
We may work with third-party advertising partners to deliver personalised advertising on our site and on third-party platforms. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your activity across sites in order to show you relevant advertisements. You can learn more and opt out of many third-party advertising practices at www.aboutads.info/choices.
Browser controls
You may block or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our site. Cookie preferences are applied per browser and device and may need to be reset if you clear your browser history.
Do-Not-Track signals
Our site does not currently respond to Do-Not-Track signals transmitted by your browser.
10. Third-Party Sites and Services
Our site may contain links to third-party websites, platforms, or services — including affiliate links to products we recommend in our city guides and practical guides. These third-party sites are governed by their own privacy policies and practices, which we do not control. We encourage you to review the privacy notices of any third-party sites you visit. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
11. Your Rights and Choices
Access and correction
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal data we hold about you by contacting us at hello@bychouette.com. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.

You may request that we delete your personal data. We will comply where we are not required by law or legitimate business necessity to retain it. Please note that we may retain certain records in backup systems or as required by our legal obligations.
Marketing communications
You may opt out of receiving marketing emails from us at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by writing to us at hello@bychouette.com. Please allow a reasonable period for your request to take effect. Note that we may continue to send you transactional communications related to your account or purchases.
Cookies and tracking
You may control cookies and tracking technologies through your browser settings. Please see Section 6 for further detail.
Location data
You may withdraw your consent to location tracking through your device settings at any time.

We have implemented reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, use, or disclosure.

13. Additional Information for California Residents
Under California's Shine the Light law (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83), California residents who have provided personal information to us may request information about any personal data we have shared with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. Such requests may be made once per calendar year and relate to sharing in the prior calendar year.
To make such a request, please email us at hello@bychouette.com with the subject line "Request for California Privacy Information". Please confirm in your email that you are a California resident and include your current California mailing address. We will respond to valid requests by email within the timeframe required by law. Please note that not all information sharing is covered by the Shine the Light requirements.
14. Children
Chouette is a platform created for adults — specifically, parents and caregivers. Our services are not directed at children under the age of thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at hello@bychouette.com and we will take prompt steps to delete that information.
15. Security
We implement reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the personal data we hold from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures are designed to meet or exceed the requirements of applicable law, including the New York SHIELD Act.
Please be aware that no data security measures can guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please notify us immediately at hello@bychouette.com.
16. Changes to This Notice
This Notice is current as of the Effective Date set out above. We may update this Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our services, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will post the updated Notice on our site and update the Effective Date. Where the changes materially affect how we handle personal data we have previously collected, we will also endeavour to notify you directly — by email or by a prominent notice on our site — before the changes take effect.
We encourage you to review this Notice periodically. Your continued use of our services after an updated Notice has been posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
